Baroque Concertos at the Spivey Hall in Clayton County, GA

After their first US tour in May 2005 with concerts in New York (Carnegie Hall), Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington, DC, Clayton County is happy to welcome the Akademie fuer Alte Musik (AAM) Berlin's in the Spivey Hall on Sunday, April 6th 2008.

The Akademie began as a courageous display of musical solidarity against the East German socialist regime. Now, more than 20 years later, the AAM Berlin's musical glories extend far and wide. The ensemble records exclusively for Harmonia Mundi and in addition to their series at the Berlin Konzerthaus, they appear regularly in the great concert houses of Europe: London's Wigmore Hall, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, the Zurich Tonhalle, and the Vienna Musikverein!

Winter Days, Orchid Nights in Columbus, Ohio

From January 12th – February 24th 2008 orchids will transform the Conservatory’s Pacific Island Water Garden in Columbus, OH with thousands of bright pink, yellow, orange, lime-green, and purple blooms.
Each year, the orchid’s beauty and mystique is highlighted in a special way!
Visitors will be able to view the orchid up close along the rocks, water features, and tropical foliage. The exhibition will show several species including vanda, masdevallias, oncidium, dendrobium, cymbidium, and phalaenopsis.
Featured in the Grand Atruim galleries are works celebrating the orchid by Gunter Schwegler, a fiber artist specializing in silk painting.
The popular two-part course, The Orchid Series and Orchid Forest Tours are scheduled in January and February. Orchids, plant books, and gardening tools for all ages are available at Botanica, the Conservatory’s gift shop and greenhouse.
A new feature this year, Winter Days, Orchid Nights will be held on Wednesdays, January 16, 23, and 30 from 5 until 8 p.m. Each evening will feature island themed music, tropical refreshments, and the warmth and color of orchids. The Winter Days, Orchid Nights is the perfect event to fight back the winter blahs and to spend an evening with friends, coworkers, or family with warm, tropical, orchids. It's a unique way to spend a mid-winter evening!
